The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) was introduced for the first time in the year 2002 to get admission to all the Master of Business Administration (GCET MBA) programmes conducted by the Universities in Gujarat State. This was done to provide a single window system of admissions to GCET MBA and GCET MCA programmes of different universities of the State. This system of single window was introduced by the Government of Gujarat, which has done pioneering work in providing such facilities to professional courses such as Engineering, Medicine, etc., for quite some time, which was then emulated by other States.
The effort of the Gujarat government for GCET has resulted in uniformity in the admission process and has also made the process of admissions to professional courses student-friendly in terms of time, money and efforts. This is the nine year since the introduction of the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) for GCET MBA and GCET MCA. While there are national level entrance tests for MBA such as CAT, MAT, XAT, etc., now GCET at the state level has also found a firm footing.
